Clay Pricing in 2026 and the Cost per Usable Prospect
Clay pricing separates Actions and Data Credits. Compare the full workflow cost against usable prospects, including unmatched attempts and setup work.
Founding AI Engineer @ Origami
Clay pricing separates Actions for platform work from Data Credits for data and AI. Budget for both, then compare cost per usable prospect. A credit allowance alone cannot tell you how many qualified contacts you will get.
Count the lookups that cost nothing
All 6,289 email lookups that returned no address recorded zero lookup-credit charges in Origami’s sample.
That matters when budgeting a waterfall: distinguish attempted lookups from billable results. Ask each vendor what triggers a charge; this finding does not measure Clay’s billing or prove one platform is cheaper.

What Clay charges for
| Component | Check before buying |
|---|---|
| Subscription | Billing period, Actions and required features |
| Data Credits | Providers, fields and consumption per task |
| Your provider accounts | Charges billed outside Clay |
| Operations | Setup, maintenance and unresolved records |
Clay lists Free, Launch, Growth and Enterprise plans. Its selectors change billing periods and allowances; confirm the exact combination at checkout. Bringing your own provider key changes who bills for data; it does not make that service free. See Actions and Data Credits.
Compare finished outputs
Define usable first: a qualified company, the right person and the required contact fields. Give every tool the same inputs and rules.
- Match rate: returned results ÷ eligible attempts.
- Cost per usable prospect: attributable workflow cost ÷ unique accepted prospects.
- Operating effort: time spent building, checking and maintaining the process.
Keep misses and duplicates visible. Removing difficult records makes the comparison easier than your campaign.
Clay or Origami?
Choose Clay when you want to configure providers, enrichment and routing. Test Origami when you want to describe an audience and research a list without assembling that workflow.
