Present

As a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team (TAMU VET), I teach fourth-year veterinary students in the Veterinary Emergency Management rotation. My focus is on helping students understand how veterinarians can serve their communities before, during, and after disasters. Through classroom discussion, applied casework, and engagement with Texas jurisdictions and animal-care organizations, I guide students in developing critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills that translate directly into practice. Drawing from my background in general practice, I connect clinical decision-making to the realities of disaster response, from triage and working-dog medicine to crisis communication and personal resilience. I also provide clinical instruction in the Texas A&M Small Animal Hospital’s Primary Care Service and support outreach efforts that strengthen the connection between veterinary medicine, emergency management, and the communities we serve.

As a Program Aid - Regional Leader with the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team (VET), I provide oversight of the volunteer program and participate in deployments as a veterinarian and educational assistant. I assist with the educational efforts that are provided through the Veterinary Medical Emergency Management clinical rotation, that is part of the required curriculum in the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Essential duties/tasks include: VET Regional Response and Preparedness, Deployments, and Transportation.

As an associate veterinarian at Bryan Animal Clinic, a high-volume companion animal practice, I focused on preventative care, dermatology, and behavioral medicine while managing a wide range of medical and surgical cases. The clinic’s ability to accommodate same-day urgent and emergency cases, along with a well-equipped ICU and highly trained technical staff, allowed for comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced setting. I participated in a rotating on-call schedule and performed a variety of soft tissue surgeries and medical procedures. I emphasized clear client communication, case continuity, and collaborative care with technical staff, contributing to a supportive and efficient clinical environment.

As a mixed animal associate veterinarian, I provided medical and surgical care for a wide variety of species, including canine, feline, bovine, caprine, ovine, swine, equine, and poultry. I participated in 24-hour emergency duty and managed a broad spectrum of cases in both emergency and routine settings. I personally emphasized relationship-centered care, realistic treatment planning, and client communication. I also prioritized technical staff development, especially in anesthesia monitoring and fear-free handling. My time at Beard strengthened my ability to stay adaptable, think critically across species, and lead with compassion in a rural, high-demand practice.
