· Member of a 10-doctor team practicing at a high-volume open admissions shelter. · Surgical Veterinarian – proficient in spay, neuter and a variety of soft tissue surgeries. Responsible for maintaining a healthy population, isolation of potentially infectious animals, hospitalization of trauma and/or more critical patients and diagnose, treat and follow appropriate protocols for all animals residing at the shelter. · Rotate between high volume shelter medicine and low-cost private clinic care. · Navigate and communicate diagnostic plans, treatment plans and patient care with clients to ensure proper education, information and concerns are addressed.
Managing Shelter Veterinarian
· Manage all medical and surgical care of shelter animals at a high volume open admissions shelter, reporting to the Director of Veterinary Medicine. · Member of the emergency response veterinarians for natural disasters, neglect and cruelty cases involving community animals. · Manage a team of 8 shelter veterinarians. · Support the Shelter Veterinary Internship program in cooperation with the Managing Education Veterinarian. · Responsible for creating, updating and changing standard operating procedures for all medical related shelter policies. · Responsible for inter-departmental communications; ensuring all departments are following protocols for disease prevention, disinfection, cleaning and feeding/enrichment. · Oversee the ongoing care of all shelter pets and ensure proper movement and plans are formed and followed up on. · Responsible veterinarian for the Golden Valley shelter DEA license and DEA compliance.
