Associate Director for Business Development

As Associate Director at the UACED I was responsible for leading our business development efforts and technical assistance activities. My responsibilities included leading our research technician team in the creation of business plans, feasibility studies, and market analyses. I also helped lead our client acquisition efforts, including grant proposal formation. The position required project management expertise as well as technical knowledge of many different business functions. Highlights from this position included helping to lead the business planning efforts for establishment of an integrated truss manufacturing plant and sawmill in Western Alaska, a project which was nominated for an innovation in economic development award through UEDA in its "community connected campus" category.

As a consultant for the UACED I helped carry out our work on business plans, feasibility studies, market analyses, and other economic development consulting activities. Our primary clients included Alaska Native Corporations, tribal governments, and municipal governments.The position required analyzing and collecting data to better understand each organization and industry. In this role I worked on many different projects, including co-leading a seven month planning study aimed at re-establishing a Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Alaska. Other projects included assisting the business planning efforts for the Alaska Airlines Center, as well as feasibility studies aimed at rural economic development projects. I also helped serve as a contributor to the statewide development plan for unmanned aerial systems development in Alaska, as well as the business planning efforts for the South Denali Visitor Center and Campground.

Americorps Vista- Development Specialist

As Development Specialist I established a fundraising campaign for two of CED's entrepreneurship initiatives, Lemonade Day Alaska and AKSourceLink. This position required reaching out to interested partners for support, identifying areas of close alignment. I also served as the chief grant writer for both Lemonade Day and AKSourceLink. I increased cash and in-kind support to these two programs by over 500% from their previous levels. In this role I also became proficient at Google AdWords, managing the sites in-kind advertising grant to experience a 30x increase in site traffic in our fourth year of operation. In addition to these duties I also won two competitive grants to provide entrepreneurial assistance to remote communities in Southwest Alaska.
