Hello, I am Lindsey Wright, a young aspiring pre-vet. I was born and raised in Oakland, CA where I grew up riding and showing horses on the NorCal circuit. I moved up to Davis, CA in Fall 2018 to start my Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, emphasis in Equine at UCDavis. I was a student athlete my whole undergrad career, riding for the NCAA Division 1 Equestrian Team. Throughout my undergrad, I volunteered in research labs as well as worked within the VMTH, specifically surgery and equine reproduction. After graduating in Spring 2022, I went on to build up my young horse handling and training experience by breaking and training 3 and 4 year olds. Missing veterinary medicine, I decided to make a career change and jump back in as a veterinary technician at Petaluma Equine. To diversify my knowledge, I also shadow ambulatory veterinarians at Loomis Basin Equine to increase my experience. I assisted and observed rectal ultrasounds, pregnancy checks, embryo transfers and retrievals, and stallion collection. I learned about the use of synthetic oxytocin and progesterone (Regumate). I learned a lot more about the equine estrous cycle as well as signs of heat and pregnancy. I learned how to identify growing follicles, pregnancy, and cysts on the ultrasound. I also got to experience the elimination of twins.
