Student Research Assisstant
Assisted with research conduction on turf grass pathogens. Helped spray and regulate Kentucky bluegrass and Poa annua research plots that were infected with either dollar spot (S. homeoecarpa), summer patch, or both. Also, carried out my own research project that looked at fungicide resistance of the common pathogen Sclerotinia homeoecarpa. Samples were taken from various areas around campus and from nearby golf courses. Research was done in lab on media culture.
Undergraduate Lab Researcher
I conducted undergraduate research with a professor on the skeletal protein osteocalcin. We added the protein, at variable amounts and for different amounts of time, to adipocyte tissue cultures to see osteocalcin's effect on lipid droplet formation. This research provided insight on how lipid formation is affected by the pathway of osteocalcin from skeletal bone to adipocyte cells. Our study was fueled from the article (in the link below) by Dr. Gerard Karsenty of Columbia University on how bone formation/destruction and metabolism are related through various pathways. In addition to this, I gained basic knowledge and understanding of tissue culture, DNA/RNA purification techniques and general cell laboratory care and upkeep.
