I worked as a TA for the department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. The course was laboratory-based (NPB101-L) and involved conducting physiology labs for undergraduate students working towards going to medical, veterinary, physiotherapy, nursing and advanced nutrition schools. Other responsibilities include teaching lab procedures and all the physiological concepts that underlie them (cardiac, gastro-intestinal, respiratory, excretory, musculoskeletal and nervous systems) grading detailed lab reports (scientific writing assignments), taking quizes and helping them with their overall understanding of the material and application of the anatomy and physiology.

In the first year, worked as an ambulatory doctor; attended stray dogs residing in various locations (mainly streets, building compounds, railway stations, shanties, etc) for emergency medical, surgical and trauma care. Cases requiring surgery or constant monitoring and care, would be taken to the hospital after on-the-spot basic first aid and stabilization. In the second year, I worked as a surgeon and physician in the shelter premises; performed routine spay-neuters, and other soft tissue surgeries, was responsible for daily care of critically ill admitted patients, treatment of out-patient cases : owner-less street animals or those belonging to poor/street/shanty dwellers, who couldn’t afford private veterinary services for their animals- case-load mostly comprised of hemoprotozoal infections, Parvo-Distemper and other tropical infectious diseases, toxicities, maggoted wounds, skin conditions, vaccinations, cruelty cases: physical trauma, burns, poisoning, bestiality.

I worked as a large and small animal veterinarian at the hospital and on the mobile ambulance in the city and surrounding villages. Dealt with surgical, medical and obstetrical conditions of cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, birds and reptiles. I was in charge of the in-house pathology lab and processed blood, urine and microbiological samples for visiting patients for diagnoses. I was also in charge of the radiology lab and worked on the CR system that was installed there. I had to supervise over assistant staff, supplies and overall functioning of the premises. I mentored internees from Bombay Veterinary College during my entire tenure there.
