Dr. Kartchner is a board-certified family physician. He is the founder of The Family Doctor, PLLC, Tucson's first fully independent direct primary care practice. He attended the University of Arizona for both undergraduate and medical school. He completed a residency in family medicine at St. Louis University and later received a degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University. Following medical school, Dr. Kartchner served on active duty in the United States Air Force and later with the Arizona Air National Guard before retiring from the military after 23 years of service. He currently serves with the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, an all-volunteer search and rescue organization under the direction of the Pima County Sheriff's Department. He participates regularly in overseas medical missions and has practiced medicine in fifteen countries and on five continents.
