Swim Instructor

I teach children ages 0-11 how to swim. I am in charge of preparing the lesson plans for the day, evaluating student progress, and communicating with the children's parents. I teach both individual and group classes with students of varying capabilities. I have learned how to work with children and adults in uncomfortable and stressful situations.

Undergraduate Researcher
Our research lab studies retina regeneration and the impact of different factors on transdifferentiation of the retinal pigment epithelium. Sectioning, embedding, and histology are a few laboratory skills that I have learned since joining the lab. This hands-on experience allows me to take what I learn in the classroom and fully engage that knowledge in an active research project. I have presented this project at Miami University Undergraduate Forum 2018 and the OMV Neuroscience Conference. I work 10 hours a week during the semester and am currently working as a full-time lab assistant.
Lifeguard/ Cleaner/ Opener

I was responsible for the safety of children and adults at the pool through observation and rule enforcement. I was prepared to rescue and perform CPR on pool guests in emergency situations. I served as a role model to children who attended the pool. I was one of a few selected lifeguards to be responsible for daily pool opening and cleaning procedures. I trained new pool openers and cleaners as needed.
Animal Husbandry Intern
I assisted animal keepers in feeding, cleaning, and caring for wildlife animals. I gained a better understanding of exotic animal diets, care and behavior. I helped veterinarians distribute medications to animals in their habitats.Through this experience I was able to see firsthand the different phases of rehabilitation required to safely and effectively rescue and relocate exotic animals. I worked with lions, tigers, llamas, bears, wolves, panthers, and a variety of exotic animals. This opportunity broadened my knowledge of animals outside of those in the suburban environment I normally live.
