Veterinary Student Extern and Veterinary Assistant

For two months (mid-June 2022 through mid-August 2022), I participated in the Banfield Student Jobs Program as a student extern and assistant. I performed the normal responsibilities of an assistant, including animal welfare, handling, and behavior as well as facility maintenance. In my role as an extern, I took a more active role in discussing and managing cases under doctor supervision. I discussed potential differential diagnoses with doctors and helped carry out treatment plans in whatever areas I was qualified to do so. I gained practical experience in venipuncture, dentistry, anesthesia monitoring, clinical examination, and fear-free feline handling.

In another experiment in Summer 2017, I gathered data on a local hermit crab population to determine the distribution of shell sizes, which was used as a proxy for wealth distribution in a comparative sociological study.
