About

Clement is a researcher in inverse problems, applied math, high-performance computing (HPC), reservoir simulation and generative artificial intelligence (AI). He has a BS.c in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos, an MS.c in Petroleum Engineering from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and a Ph.D. in Inverse Problems (with emphasis on reservoir simulation & machine learning) from the University of Manchester. His Ph.D. thesis titled “Structural and Shape Reconstruction Using Inverse Problems and Machine Learning Techniques with Application to Hydrocarbon Reservoirs", focused on reservoir history matching and was one of the pioneers in using ensemble-based data assimilation with unsupervised learning for reservoir characterization. In the course of his Post-doc in applied math at Oak Ridge National Laboratory Tennessee-USA joint with the Department of Mathematics, University of Manchester (UK)), he developed a novel general methodology, called CCR, for learning highly nonl…

Visiting Researcher On Edinburgh Time-Lapse Project- 4d Seismic History Matching

Heriot-Watt University · Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The goal of this Internship was focused on the history matching of the Norne reservoir by integrating 4D seismic data into the inversion process using machine learning techniques. During the internship, I developed a new integrated scheme for the reconstruction of petrophysical properties with a modified Ensemble Smoother with Multiple Data Assimilation (ES-MDA) in a synthetic reservoir is proposed. The permeability field inside the reservoir is parametrised with an unsupervised learning approach, namely K-means with Singular Value Decomposition (K-SVD). This is combined with the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) technique which is very typical for sparsity promoting regularisation schemes. Moreover, seismic attributes, in particular, acoustic impedance, are parametrised with the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). This novel combination of techniques from machine learning, sparsity regularisation, seismic imaging and history matching aims to address the ill-posedness of the inversion of…

Work summary: This project is mainly on the modification of the cellar deck of the Ubit GP Platform. The primary purpose of the project involves some demolitions of existing 3 tons monorail systems to be replaced with upgraded ones. A design for (SWL) of 5 tons capacity new monorail systems was carried out for subsequent installation. Furthermore we also checked the impact of the monorails replacement on piping to identify potential obstructions and constructability issues. Responsibilities: Generated the following QAQC deliverables: Reviewing HAZID and HAZOP in the course of the project Other task as assigned by supervisor as the project progress.
