In December 2012, my practice and personal life were under attack from cancer. Patients were dying and I felt powerless to heal them - and then, my own aunt and medical mentor was diagnosed with Stage IIIB colon cancer. I needed to do something. I needed to fight back. On New Year's Eve 2012, I vowed to recruit four friends to run the 10-Mile Philadelphia Broad Street Run and raise $2,000 for the American Cancer Society. That May, we took 47 runners and had raised $67,000. Fast forward to today, and we are an official 501(c)(3) charity of over 1,500 runners and non-runners who have raised over $500,000 for the ACS. In my capacity as founder and board chair, I am a volunteer organizer, project manager, program planner and fundraiser. I am the principal networker for the foundation, recruiting businesses and local leaders to support and endorse our foundation and its many activities to support cancer families and fighters.
