Work Study Manager
Cornell University Hospital for Animals · Ithaca, NY
- Responsibilities included helping the fourth year student clinicians with their physical examinations, practice fear-free restraint, greet clients and bring them into exam rooms, enter information and requests into hospital computer software as well as performing basic lab work as needed. - Stocked and maintained the cleanliness of the exam rooms and Community Practice Service area. - Oversaw hiring and scheduling of the student technicians and saw to any issues or concerns brought up by employees.

- Responsibilities included providing hay, grain and supplements to over 50 horses on the property including high energy polo ponies, equestrian team-owned horses and boarding horses, horse turn-in and turn-out, stall cleaning, driving the tractor for bedding stalls, administering medications as needed to horses, miscellaneous grounds and stable upkeep.
Veterinary Technician Assistant

- Served to greet clients in appointments, perform TPRs on patients and get histories to pass on to the doctor on the case. - Performed venipunctures, placed catheters and also endotracheal tubes as a veterinary student. - - Assisted technicians and veterinarians at a small animal clinic to perform procedures that required restraint or assistance in some way. - Administered medications as needed and directed by the vets. - Responsible for caring for all in house patients as well as the upkeep and cleanliness of the entire hospital. - Skills in making surgery packs, using autoclaves, utilizing oxygen/anesthesia machines, assisting with x-rays and ultrasounds, using fluid pumps, giving medications, properly restraining animals, setting up and running blood tests and urine/fecal tests, and proper interactions with clients.

- Cleaned stalls, bedded them down, scrubbed/filled water buckets, stacked and distributed hay, made up grain and supplements, swept/raked aisle ways and hay lofts, brought in/turned out horses. - Worked with all types of horses and all ages ranging from weanlings/foals to elderly horses at the age of 30 and thoroughbreds to appaloosas, quarter horses, arab crosses and warmbloods. - Worked on general grounds upkeep in terms of ring maintenance and making both stadium and cross country jumps and setting up for horse shows and trials.
