I worked as an Associate Veterinarian in a 50/50 mixed animal practice with one other veterinarian. I practiced a great deal of large animal herd health medicine and theriogenolgy including semen quality testing, artificial insemination, embryo transfer, manual pregnancy determination, and birthing assistance. However, I focused primarily on small animal disease prevention, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and client education. I also incorporated my interest in exotics medicine into my position and saw a wide variety of exotics patients including rabbits, birds, and wildlife. This clinic was also the humane society for the area. Because of this, I began an adoption program to educate clients on disease prevention, offer low-cost spays and neuters for adoptable stray animals, and increase adoption rates.

I worked as a liaison between the IVMA and both member & non-member clinics. I had the opportunity to represent the organization in various clinics throughout Iowa. I was also given charge of two projects - organizing a 'Veterinary Camp' for children that was held during a number of county fairs in the state as well as creating a computer-based program to educate individuals about what the IVMA can do for them as well as how to organize their own veterinary camps for their community.
