I'm building Ciral Fusion, an Australian deep-tech company developing a novel approach to fusion energy called Impact-Initiated Fusion. Fusion has the potential to provide abundant, zero-carbon firm power. But the field has been stuck: hardware experiments cost hundreds of millions, iteration cycles take years, and most programmes optimise for monolithic power plants that are decades away. The rate of learning is too slow. Ciral is pursuing a different path. Our approach uses high-leverage, pulsed fusion physics to enable smaller, modular systems that scale through replication, not facility size. We've completed our initial simulation and modelling phase, with our multi-physics model independently validated by plasma physics researchers. We're now entering our first experimental hardware programme. It's hard, it's early, and the outcome is uncertain.
